If your department has developed its records retention and disposition schedules, we can advise on whether records may be destroyed or need to be permanently preserved.

If your department has not developed its records retention and disposition schedules yet please contact us to discuss this essential step.

If your records may be destroyed, we can coordinate with Waste Management Services for secure bulk destruction. There is no need to spend time on small office shredders. The steps are as follows:

  • we will liaise with Waste Management to arrange a time;

  • somebody from your department should be present to witness the destruction;

  • you will receive certificates of transfer and destruction from Waste Management so please keep them for your files; and

  • be sure to share copies of those certificates with the Archives or, if we receive them, we will share them with your office.
